Between now and May we’re probably not going to see much more in the way of clues and plot from Gareth Edwards (at least we hope not), so let’s get straight into dissecting what we can figure out from the newest full-length Godzilla (2014) trailer..,
Planes falling from the sky are a recurring theme.
Japan is going to feature, and it looks like present day (check out the mini-van), not 1954 as some had speculated.
Vegas is going to get it, but from who? Vegas is a long way inland for Godzilla, will he trek all that way from the Pacific?
Godzilla coming ashore will finally cause water displacement! It always bothered me how such a large object coming out of the sea never caused water displacement.
Someone’s coming ashore in Hawaii. So that’s San Francisco, Japan, Vegas, and Hawaii confirmed. Very Pacific Rim (region, not movie). How do I know this is Hawaii? Check the license plates (and bad shirts).
Are the beasts craving radiation? Check out the gash in this radioactive container. Godzilla movies in the past have toyed with the notion that Godzilla, once created by radiation, would seek it out as a source of energy.
We’re going back to 1954 (the year of the original Godzilla movie) at least in archive footage and flashbacks. This is very interesting. Where has Godzilla been hiding all this time?
1954 nuclear testing wasn’t testing at all, but a means to kill Godzilla that clearly only kind of worked. This is a great plot point, note the atom bomb on stilts in front of Godzilla in this scene. But what happened to him for 60 years? Is there more than one King of the Monsters?
What even is this? More evidence of creatures attracted to nuclear weaponry?
Something can fly. Called it back in the teaser! Godzilla isn’t the only marauding monster here, and at least one of them can fly. The question now is, is this a Gareth Edwards original or a creature from Godzilla’s rich tradition of flying adversaries (Mothra? King Ghidorah? Hedorah? That last one’s a joke).
Giant creatures have always been here, as seen with this giant buried skeleton. Perhaps with a nod to H.P.Lovecraft, the Old Ones have always been here and this is their home not ours.
That sure as shit isn’t Godzilla’s foot/arm. Does this belong to the winged creature or something else again? How much of the movie will feature these creatures?
Behold the face of the beast. Here he is in all his roaring glory.
