Carmen Filpi may not be a name recognisable with the Halloween franchise but you may recall him as the crazy old preacher who gives a ride to fellow brother-in-arms Dr Sam Loomis. Spouting a bunch of wide-eyed crazy talk about evil and the end of days, Filpi is on top lunatic form with dialogue like “you can’t kill damnation, mister. It don’t die like a man dies“. Out of 300 million or so American’s Dr Loomis manages to hitch a ride with the one who may be crazier than he is. The real joy of this scene, and what makes this particular movie evangelical a hero is that Loomis not only enjoys and is comforted by this nonsense but actually manages to crack a smile. That’s right, the bat-shit crazy old dude manages to make stone-faced Mr Serious smile. Meaning that other than road warrior preachers, the only thing known to make Loomis smile is scaring small children at night. Look at his little face, ahhhhhhh.
