Friday the 13th Part 3D, an average movie with even more average 3D effects will forever be remembered as the moment that Jason Voorhees put on his infamous hockey mask for the very first time. But such moments of seismic proportions do not happen by accident dear friends, oh no. They do happen because of fat teenager pranksters with big wafro’s. Shelly (aka actor and horror convention stalwart Larry Zerner) is a fat kid with too many masks and props and too little ladies in his life. Whilst playing one of his many hi-larious pranks (less mega-lols and more brain prolapse) Shelly dresses in a wetsuit/hockey mask combo (naturally) to try and scare some sexy chick into the sack for some fat disappointing loving. Sadly he gets less love and more dead. The result of which is Jason (unseen on screen!) taking the hockey mask off his fat face and using it to murderize jerks for the next 30 years. It’s perhaps one of the least epic ways any character became a pop culture icon. And that is why Shelly is an undisputed hero and legend of horror. Check out Jason’s first EVER appearance in his hockey mask below, complete with chinos and a nice dress shirt (serious WTF costume department, come on).
