Day by day we are getting 30 second teaser trailers for a trailer of Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus‘ (film marketing sure has changed since Sir Riders first space outing in 1979). Today’s teaser (2 of 3) shows much of the same tantalising clips and glimpses, but does reveal one action set piece which appears to be a huge craft crash-landing. Hmmm, could we be seeing the famous crashed vessel that harboured the infamous ‘Space Jockey’ and alien egg chamber from ‘Alien‘? This may not be as much of a far fetched fan-boy daydream as you’d think. Recently Scott gave an interview to Icelandic website Filmophillia, in it he stated that the link to ‘Alien‘ would become clear in the third act (which I like, tie it in, yet give us a fresh new movie too). More so he gave away this little nugget of much speculated news;
“I was always amazed that nobody ever asked who the hell The Space Jockey was, and why he was there. I sat thinking about this for a while and thought, well, there’s a story! And the others missed it! So, here it is. I always figured that [the crashed vessel in Alien] was a carrier of weapons. Therefore, who is that, inside that suit? That wasn’t a skeleton, that was a suit. And if you open up the suit, what do you get inside it? And where were they going, and why were they going there?”
So there you go, we will see that crashed ship, and we will meet the Space Jockey. It appears that we’ve just been treated to the first shots of that doomed vessel crash landing and changing the fate of Ellen Ripley for the next couple of centuries.
NOTE: I know there’s a bootleg of the full trailer online but, as always, lets wait for the real thing, so we don’t have to listen to the prjectioner and his girlfriend saying “Booyah“.
